Someone's In The Kitchen With Mommy

Jonah came to me the other day and wanted to do some baking, so I agreed to lend a hand

Yes, yes, it's Lent and we shouldn't be eating sweets.

But still, I opted to seize the opportunity of helpfulness from my holed-up-in-his-man-cave-boy.

He pulled out a recipe from his favorite magazine and we got to work.

Quarry Crunchers

1 stick butter
1/2 cup milk
1 cup sugar
3 tsp. cocoa
1 tsp. vanilla
1 cup peanut butter
3 cups crispy rice cereal

Line cupcake pan with liners (ours made about 18).

Combine butter and milk in saucepan on low heat.

Once butter has melted, add the sugar, cocoa and vanilla. Bring to a gentle boil.

Boil 2 minutes and then remove from heat.

Add peanut butter and stir until smooth.

Stir in crispy rice cereal.

Spoon crunch mixture into cupcake liners.

Place in the fridge to set for about 1-2 hours.

Enjoy your crunchy treats!

One very happy little boy.

Our bellies thanked him afterward.

*Jonah highly recommends the Thomas magazine if you can find it at your local grocery store. He's almost eight and still requests a copy when we stop at the one area store that carries them. They have fun activities, stories and an easy recipe too.

  1. You are the best mommy, Sarah! What sweet memories he will have of baking with you...and I am glad he asked you to! That recipe sounds good...Adding Rice Krispies to my list this week. Please tell Jonah thanks for sharing. : )

  2. Awww, a boy who knows his way around the kitchen will make a great catch one day!

  3. Hi Sara! Thanks so much for sharing this recipe! I have 2 Thomas fans in this house, and I had no idea about the magazine! Ben is only 6 so since Jonah is already 8 I'm assuming Ben is not too old. I will be on the lookout for it! Our daughter, Mary, loves her American Girl doll magazines/books so I'd love to have something for the boys!

  4. Awwww, how cute! Nicholas used to love baking and doing things with me in the kitchen...enjoy it while he likes it! Looks like a fun treat too!

  5. I absolutely relish time in the kitchen with my son. He's just not as "into it" as the girls, so when he asks to help bake/cook something, I'm all in!

I sent you an's not spam! Please take a peek and respond when you get a chance. Thanks!

  6. A Thomas magazine? How awesome! I'm going to have to find one for my I-love-anything-with-wheels-especially-if-it-has-an-engine boy!

You're so kind for dropping me a line!
