Overheard

A little boy dancing around and this sing-song rhyme on his lips:

'It's time for Christmas. For Christmas. It's better than birthdays. Than birthdays. Because you get more toys on Christmas than on your birthday. On your birthday.'

Sounds like I've got my work cut out for me in the next four days. I think Christmas reminders are in order and a little brushing up on Christmas/gift etiquette and manners.

Oh boy. We'll be busy.

  2. Oh, I have a 5 year old who sings a very similar song!!!

I just stress the reason we give gifts is because we are happy Jesus is born! AND that it is better to give gifts than receive!!!

(about a million times, I stress this...hope it sinks in!)

  3. Totally normal and totally irritating to moms who care about manners. They do outgrow it, even if older relatives might not outgrow being offended by such typical childish behavior! Hope he's a quick study and the gratitude training all goes well before gift opening!

  4. Yes. I've been hearing similar things coming out of my kids' mouths lately, too. It's so hard ... They're so excited to see the gifts under the tree, but they almost get too caught up in that and forget the real reason we're celebrating ... I'll pray for you, if you pray for me, as we work on those reminders this week =)

  5. Oh well, dancing and singing is better than running and shouting.
